Roadies in the Midst: The Story of Touring with the Red Hot Chili Peppers 2006-2007
In lands of beauty, wonder and danger, roadies follow a dream, fall in love and risk their lives to perpetuate the rock show.
The story of how Dave Rat, a sound engineer, takes two year journey with the Red Hot Chili Peppers studying the roadies and later fights to protect them or just possibley just hang out with them.
This is a series of blog entries written by Dave Rat, the sound engineer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It's mainly about himself and some other roadies who were working with the Peppers during Stadium Arcadium Tour. But it has some interesting photos with the Peppers and describes their trip, city by city. Also, for those who play guitar there are some pics with frusciante's pedals and his guitar amp settings (page 2 for example). Enjoy!
(Start on the bottom of page 25 as linked below and then work your way through each blog entry in reverse, that way you'll read it in chronological order!)

Here's an example of the cool things you can find on Dave's blog diary of the Stadium Arcadium Tour...
Day 17 - Paris 2nd Show - Smooth - Saturday, June 10. 2006
Yesterday, during the show a fan was holding up a sign that said "John, can I play your guitar" and then John's guitar stopped working. In a moment of frustration, John lashed out at the kid and told him to put away the dumb sign." Kind of felt bad for the kid but also the sign was blocking a ton of people's view so I didn't miss it gone. Well today, John says "Is the kid who had the sign up yesterday about playing my guitar here? Hey, I am sorry for yelling at you and if you are here, come find Dave Lee, my guitar tech, and you can come backstage and play my guitar."
I know John well enough to know that he really takes it to heart if he feels he has hurt someone's feelings. Hearing his heartfelt and pure apology made me smile and really appreciate being part of the organization.
Then the follow-up to the whole sign boy fiasco...
Day 53 - London, Earl's Court Arena Show Day #2 Saturday, July 15. 2006
Do you remember sign boy? "John I want to play your guitar." Well his name is Nicolas and he was here tonight. He stopped by FOH and I asked him how it turned out and as you can tell by the picture below, he is still having difficulties getting over the whole traumatizing experience:
Either that or he raging on an air guitar. And yes, he actually did get to play John's guitar! And like many things in life, things that seem less than good often times turn out to be really cool in disguise:
Check it out!
