Okey dokey, now I am at Salt Lake City library.
The last two concerts were a tad bit odd. Boise is almost the antithesis of the t\city I grew up in (Eugene, OR) . It is kinda red neck with alot of drunks and aggressive behavior. It is a decidedly Red State as it were. Salt Lake is soooo very conservative and up tight, even though I tried to dress to be more quiet in appearance I still seem to stick out. I mean, people had really really short hair, but not punkish, more like air force short. Really, I saw very few long hairs, maybe three outside of the band. Men in suits and women with skirts down to their ankles just about and button up shirts and it is HOT outside.
The Chilis seemed just a bit tired last night. Anthony is taking more and more water or tea breaks then he did just a week ago. And both of the last venues were kinda hot, like the air conditioning was turned off, which I heard is something they do sometimes to help save a singers voice, since the air conditioning is hard on thier throats. It must be rough singing night after night. I know I am exhausted driving in from Boise.
John hurt his hand yesterday, or so Anthony said onstage. He mostly played great, though one song (I forget which one, sorry) he started out of key so the whole song was off all the way through. Nothing anyone could do but stop and start all over or just play it through. But other than that, it was great. Chad is truly amazing--you don't really get to appreciate what he adds to the songs till you get to hear him in concert.
Frankly, I like the Peppers better in concert than on their records. Maybe they should release some live concert cd's, they would be great. I appreciate that they keep the prices manageable, and they could make some money off of some live recordings.
They have been bringing the guy who played theruman (spelling?) on By the Way up to sing some back ups. I forget his name. Funny thing, twice now, once in Portland and then again last night, some other guy has jumped onstage while flea and john is playing and acts like he is singing although you can't hear anything. Security just runs up and carrys these uninvited guests off stage. It is kinda funny to watch. You would almost think some horney chick would jump up there to grab somebodys ass, but no, they get guys who want to act like they are part of the band.
I am appalled at how some of the people in these concets act. I keep having people near me who simply won't shut up. In Auburn, during flea and johns jam session, some chick was talking to her guy friend about she thought that he liked someone, and he would say no he didn't....
"I know you like him..."
"No, I don't "
"Yes you do..."
"No. I really don't..."
"yes you do!"...
On and on and I told them to be quiet several times and they didn't care.
Alos, what is up with pouring on the perfume in concerts??? I could barely breathe in Portland.
I had to bitch a little. Now it is out of my system.
Overall, I am happy with the concerts I have been to. I am passing on Denver (too much driving too soon). Last ticket I have is for Phoenix, but I will try to find some more.
