I recognize that not everything of SA is going to be played (although even there I'm critical - it's not hard to cycle enough tracks around for each gig to give everything at least some coverage. Even with a double album that should be easily feasable with such a large tour). I just find it a shame that they go off, create an album called Stadium Arcadium, write a bunch of songs perfect for large-scale stadium moshes, then don't play them in the settings where they matter most. Most of the setlists I've seen this tour look downright boring; I got sick of their bright-sunshiney-pop phase about three listens through By The Way. The terrible choices for singles this album only seems to enforce it. I understand that occasionally there's going to be issues with the limits of the musicians, but it's times like these that make me wonder why they can't simply bring in a second guitarist for live performances, or even why Ant can't pick up a guitar himself. Loads of bands do it, why the RHCP can't is beyond me. In any case, if the Peppers don't shape up their setlists for their North American tour I'm giving up my ticket. They have great energy but why should I watch a gig setlist that looks like a carbon copy of the time I saw them in the UK over two years ago?

I'm also not the biggest fan of how they do their setlists. For a band so creative and original in the studio and that gets their music through jams their setlists are pretty repetitive and unoriginal/uninspired. They have thrown in a few oldies on this tour but not enough. If they refuse to acknowledge their first four albums at least mix the sets up a bit with your 4 major label albums you are willing to play stuff from. Most of the sets are from the last 3 albums with sometimes only 1-2 BSSM songs being played. Not a fan at all of their setlists but I still love seeing them live and even the same sets can sway my opinon a bit when i'm there because in the end, I still love all of those songs.

Guys, I understand your frustration, but understand than even though we're hardcore fans and know probably all their setlists from every tour, a lot of people that go to these concerts are casual fans or listeners of the band and they want to hear the hits. Any concert without "Give It Away" et. al. will be a disappointment to them.
I just wish the Peppers would play for longer. Why are they only playing 1 hr 30 minute sets? That's the length of the PROMO concert I went to back in May. They have enough material to play for 3 hours if they wanted to. I know it must be tiring and all, but sheesh. It doesn't hurt to reach far back into your catalogue, play all your hits, and THEN some. And I agree, why did they make an album called "Stadium Arcadium" if they're not going to play stuff like "She's Only 18" and "Turn It Again," things MADE for a stadium setting?!

On a slightly different note, am I the only one who's a little dissapointed that John dosen't play any solo/Ataxia material on tour? It's a very different sound from the Peppers but for a guy who released six albums and one EP within 12 months (a fair bit of the material having bass and drums performed by Flea and Chad anyway) you'd think there'd be at least some sort of recognition. He does some good little covers but the same old songs he does get stale after a while; hearing one of his louder tracks like Look On, What I Saw, or Carvel in place of yet another 30 second I Feel Love cover would be a great surprize addition for a setlist.

Id like to see John play his solo stuff on the RHCP tour, but I dont think it would happen... a longer setlist would be nice, but Johns solo material on an RHCP tour is wishful thinking

I find it funny that now Flea is back to doing 30 second songs and it's the same song he's been doing for many years, The Needle And The Damage Done.

I have a question concerning Hump de Bump- probably Henrik can answer it It showed up a couple of times in the setlists, but when I´ve listened to the Berlin bootleg they didn´t even play half of it. So I wonder if they always do it like that or usually play the whole thing...

Hump de bump was present in the first gigs. Then it dissapeared I hope they'd play it again.

Right. In Berlin they only played a part of it cause one guy in the audience had requested it during the show.

I agree, Carvel is no wierder to a casual listener than a Donna Summer cover. John did his own "tour" in 2004/2005 where he performed his new songs and now he probably feels that is inappropriate to play his songs on RHCP shows. Can you imagine hearing songs from ATAXIA or Sphere In The Heart Of Silence during RHCP show?? or from other albums?? That is just not suitable. His songs would loose their magic if they are played in front of crowds of people because they are too intimate. And the covers are very very different from his own songs...
