I am not sure if you guys have seen it yet, as it's a subscription-only thing; but John has written a poem about deceased Layne Staley for the April 2009 issue of The Horse Chronicles. If you go to www.thehorsechronicles.org and follow the subscription instructions, you'll receive a link to the PDF featuring John's poem, on page number 16 out of 27. Here's a small preview:

Iva, I enjoyed the small preview, received an email with a link to the PDF, but when I click on it, nothing comes up...if you have any tips, I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Perhaps your computer is too slow. Or you do not have Adobe Reader installed on it. get.adobe.com/reader/ I'll send you an alternate solution ASAP, just in case.

When Tanya sends you the email back, she sends you a link that is similar to what Iva has posted on I-M, but when you click on the link it opens bigger so you can read the whole magazine and poem. It is a .pdf file. If you save it to your computer and open it in adobe acrobat, it will not be as slow as if you try to read it from the website. The poem is very beautiful and a perfect dedication to Layne. I hope that answers your question.

I think that's rude to ask. It's easy enough as it is and the magazine obviously likes to gather some readers. In the past this magazine published more things related to John, like a small interview. Subscribing is potentially interesting.

Subscribing is potentially interesting. It does have some good articles but the website is rubbish! I can't figure out where his poem is. Maybe I'm being dim but either way the site is the most un-user friendly site I have ever come across. So if comeone could copy it that would be nice!

The website is very simple and as it states, pure indie, or as some may call it "local stuff." If you send an email as it asks you on the homepage, Tanya will send you an email back with the website main, but also the .pdf file that you can read. It's better to save it to your computer and open it in adobe. John's poem is on page 16. I have to say, it brings back so many memories and tears of emotions while going through the article.
The point of the subscription is to know how it draws interest, along with sharing articles and interviews such as this April's headline about Layne. It's not a regular article in my opinion, because this one shares stories, poems and real live testimonies all in real time. Provides for a more rounded experience and feel for how much Layne and Alice in Chains music touched the world, not just by fans, friends and acquaintances, but also other musicians, too.
Anyway, each person will have their own views and that is okay. Because life is however we choose to see it, so however you feel about something is your right to feel that way. This is in my opinion and not meant to offend anyone.
I hope that helps answer your question about where John's poem is.

If you save it to your computer and open it in adobe acrobat, it will not be as slow as if you try to read it from the website. That should solve everyone's problems. The file is too big to stream on computers with less than 2 Gb RAM! Now, why is the file on my site? Well, Tanya did not know how to upload the file to her server as her web design knowledge is VERY basic and I allowed her to direct people to the place where I had uploaded the file for her. I did point out that the site is two thousand light years away from being user-friendly and that drag and drop Flash builders are a pile of poopsie...and that's exactly a good reason to download the PDF, as it's almost like reading a real magazine. However, as Tanya is a zine editor and not a web designer or a web dev, I think we should cut her and the other THC staff some slack. Ann, only18 and jozavala, *please*, JUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. Sorry to yell, but what Gong Li said makes perfect sense: it's rude to ask. Tanya decided to make the article subscription-only. Some people might shake their fists at that, but really, you can only benefit from it. Plus, that way you're supporting indie journalism. There, I hope I helped everyone.

Please - no more questions about the poem or advice about the website as it is turning this thread into a promotion for that website and therefore should probably get moved to the nobody weird like me thread, and it will be moved if any more word about the website continues. As Iva has stated all the information you need has already been provided, so just follow the instructions or ask further questions via PM. Please feel free to discuss the poem in here still though. Thanks guys, Sam.
