Dream Me to Life
Thinking back over the years how many words? how many tears?
I see now, I see how you’ve tried, I know now, I know this is not a lie
How many poems I’ve written? how many days have passed?
How many years we’ve been sittin’? waiting for our hearts to catch up at last?
You know, I could always feel him, and I would write
I never knew exactly who he was . . .
but I could always feel him and his awesome love
I had helpers too, they gave me some big clues
I had visions, I had dreams, but it seemed I just could never see
Now as my eyes behold you - you're like a dream come true
like a wish granted from a wizard
but alas, you’re for real
like graceful, warm yellow sunlight
piercing through blinding white blizzards
I saw a picture of you, with deep concern and love in your eyes
a picture of you in black and white – baby, it’s like the stars came together for a fortnight
forming a constellation bearing your name and face
and like a god, you sang a melody of heartbreak
screaming an injustice – thinking it was too late
Never think that my love, never think and never fear
for the time is now the time is here
God and the angels heard your cries
and now so have I – and I’m safe, and I’m whole
Through all the chaos and all the fighting
to somewhere close to hell and back we’ve come
criss-crossing the ethers dreaming and trying
thank you, thank you for all you’ve done
You were there, you never left my side
You were there, to teach and guide
Again, I just want to simply and sweetly say, thank you
thank you my little warrior man
thank God for you.
