Take Off
Ah, I love dreams
another vivid dream:
My good & wise brother-in-law
was taxiing a plane
down rural red dirt roads
with gravel and mudcracks
and half-dried up
cornfields were nearby..
a drought-stricken area
We came to an open highway
that he used for a runway
but suddenly there were
oncoming cars all with
their headlights on
My sister and I were
in the cockpit with him
He was as calm as a cucumber
and she was too
like she had done this before
I, on the other hand,
became concerned and anxious
and fixated on the instrument panel
knowing we would have to
get up to speed before lift off
The cars! The cars!
watch out for the cars!
“Nah, they’re supposed
to all get out of the way”
I looked at him in disbelief
and studied his face
only to find complete confidence
then I turned to look through
the cockpit windshield..
Sure enough, all the cars
pulled over to the side of the road
It was daylight, but like
a funeral procession
they all had their lights on
Then we accelerated!
and we approached a hill
WoooooOOOOOOsh!
and realizing how fast
we were now going
I became worried
worried that other cars
may just be right over
that hill!
But, like a feather
caught in the wind
we gracefully lifted off the ground
and ascended quickly too
In wonderment, I looked down
and saw all the cars
resuming their travel
in this late afternoon
rural setting.
