PEOPLE!!!
John WAS NOT ILL. He got pissed of at something/someone at one point, he was almost furious. He stood the entire second half of the show near the drums, barely moving while playing.
When Flea began the improvisation intro to Californication, John was just swinging his head going 'no'. Flea put his hand on John's shoulder and tried to reason with him, but he wouldn't play so Flea asked Anthony and Chad to return to the stage and they played Californication just like on the album.
Another thing: they returned for the encore playing only Give It Away WITHOUT the usual 10-15 minute impro at the end. And there was no Under the Bridge either.
John cut the concert short. I'm sorry to say this, but he behaved like jerk through most of the show. It was agonizing for me to se my HERO, my IDOL, for the first time live and to get almost nothing but the shittiest behavior from him. I'm still so sad that I can't even remember all the greatest parts of the concert. I hope that the other fans in Europe don't get this kind of attitude from John.

'comeon', 'sarcasm_mister', Please don't take this disrespectfully (I certainly do not wish to belittle or offend you or anything), but I do hope you are wrong... simply because I wouldn't want to see these guys split (again) or anything......

We need to be careful not to judge. Things are not always what they appear. Look for the good in people, and try not to judge. These are human beings and truly dedicated professionals. Give them the benefit of the doubt. If you truly are a fan, you believe in them. Believe the best. At least that is what I believe. They always give their best to us. I believe this with all my heart. They have my undying support always and no matter what. I believe in them!

well yeah, but those people waited to see the band, they dont care about personal issues. whatever they are, you have to save it for AFTER the show. you talk about being professional? thats not professional behaviour. and its not like its the first time its happened, ive seen it myself
sometimes john APPEARS to show a lack of respect for the people that put him where he is. i feel bad for the other bandmembers and for the crowd
i dont know, in holland they were in a great mood, john included

johns mom posted this on the official bbs:
'You say they don't care. You couldn't be more mistaken. How about caring ourselves? How about considering there are many things unknown to us as an audience. I really try to consider the best in other people rather than to judge them. I believe in this band with all my heart. They love and they care with all their hearts. My faith in them is unwavering.'
which tells us nothing. i replied:
'well ok john must have had a headache, and then tech troubles
still, its no good telling us on here, were fans. its the people at the gig who wont understand
its human to feel unwell, and technical difficulties happen, but by the same token its human to feel somehow cheated. of course the crowd cant know what is really going on, but it doesnt sound like anyone offered an explanation'

I am actually really annoyed when people start complaining about the negative comments they read on some concerts and the band in general and try telling people how they should be more respectful.
Saying that the concert was bad and that John had a bad attitude doesn't mean that they don't like them. The fact that so many people have said it for that show makes me think that something did go wrong.
And what is the problem with saying it? A lot of people are obviously disappointed, they have the right to say it and there is no need to tell them off and give them a lesson on how to respect the band for expressing their feelings.
They're not perfect, they have bad nights, nothing wrong with acknowledging it.

And I know the feeling. Last year at Werchter they also left without an encore, that leaves the audience with an empty feeling. I think the least they could do is have Flea write a Fleamail with some kind of explanation.

Hey everyone! I'm absolutely fine. No sunburns, no bruises, no muscle pain nothing. I just had a strong headache (for the further text, my mother suggested that this might also have been John's problem, as the weather conditions were unbelievable: four seasons in one day and 20 degrees temperature swings!) when we came back to the house we were renting and I took an analgetic, so it was fine in the morning. Oh yes, and I lost my hat. For the second time. Bought one on Sunday, forgot it in a taxi when I was picking my German buddy, Sascha, from the airport, then bought the indentical one on Monday and it strangely disappeared while I was entering the fanpit. Oh well, hope they won't think I have two heads I'm hiding in public when I go to the hat store to buy it for the third time. Johnflea, I am surprised at how nice you were in this thread, so hugs to you Šime mentioned you at some point, methinks. peppers.baby, hugs to you too. I hope the both of you will have a great time in Udine. And I think Šime is fine, he was using my phone to text some people and they texted me to see where was he and if he's OK. He scored a place in the middle of the front row, the other people I went with were all in the first 2 rows. I am so happy for my friends Mira, Jovana an Ivan who had no other way of seeing the band, as their financial situation isn't the greatest. Calling Croatia from Serbia is roaming, as these are two separate countries, roaming always costs more. What Gong Li said about memorising setlists and mobile phones was right. I wanted to write the setlist down, but the crowd was ten thousand times madder than in Vienna and I couldn't take photos and videos, try to wave my banner and text people at the same time. At the same my battery was low from calling my mother many times before the show and texting another girl and a couple of others; so as I saw a thunderstorm could possibly happen, I decided to save the battery in case there's an emergency. Among 100 000 people who were stupidly walking down a crowded road in a thunderstorm, nobody will care if you're lost or hurt. Definitely, they're humans and they've been on a tour for 13 months, almost 15 if you count the promo shows. i read on a serbian forum that the band was ok but the audience was miserable... they didnt know any song except of californication... Not true. Maybe the casual followers far away from the pit were like that. my friend was in a 3rd row, and the atmosphere was "up to the balls" the audience was so loud sing every word with anthony even sometimes they sang louder than the whole band. even though the concert was so short it was his best rhcp experience "god damn they came with a helicopter" john was hipersensitive not ill nor anything else, he cried on one song Exactly, to deny what the person whom I have quotted before said: The audience was MAD! I was between the first and 2nd row right in front of John and I have never experienced anyone here be this happy for something that's not sports and this year's Eurovision. And there were people from all the nearby countries were there, people who once fought, that was just beautiful. Was the weather inclement? Anthony was waearing a rain poncho. I hope it is a rain ponch and not a fashion statement. Fashion statement, the whole stage was covered and he immediatelly took it off. And he was really nice and friendly all along. (cross-posted from a couple of other places) John really looked as if he had a migraine (maybe he predicted the weather change and the thunderstorm) and as if he was a bit pissed off with the equipment because he didn't do the Californication pre-jam and the outro jam and he started Don't Forget Me, while Flea was playing the bass line to something else (our guesses were Funky Monks and Breaking The Girl), we're not sure. At the same time, out of the three shows I've been to, this is the one where he'd been at his very best before he started feeling sick. He was jamming with Flea after almost every song, the intro jam looked almost as explosive as the Hullabaloo one, Don't Forget Me had a magical, magical outro just like the one in Albany last year (I've been dreaming of hearing that ever since I heard it! I almost cried when I heard it) and SOS made everyone sing along. And, even though he was obviously not feeling well at that moment already, the song was a killer, better than what I heard on 07th December in Vienna. John was giving all of himself, even after he was obviously starting to feel unwell. So did the rest of the band. They WERE doing their best. Anthony was sitting at the edge of the stage while singing the beginning of By The Way, Flea greeted all of us, he did a solo as well and Chad was simply beating the hell out of drums. I am really thankful that after years and years of waiting, I saw them in my own country. People who were throwing bottles are obviously not true RHCP fans, just the occasional followers and skinheads who came to see the band that opened the festival. Those skinheads actually did a favour to me by pushing me more towards the centre of the stage when they tried to cause a fight while their favourite band was performing. Also, EXIT made an organisation mistake by giving people bottled water. I'd blame that on them. The company I work for has a sponsorship deal with their company and they're all strange people. Trust me, I had to work with them. The setlist is in the correct order, apart from missing jams and improvs John did (will try to remember all of them, they were amazing!), and By The Way was the last song before the encore. I have so much to tell you all, and I have at least 70 great photos and video clips (I took about 800 photos overall), will probably feature a whole web page dedicated to what my friends and I went through: from expecting the show to coming back home. Sneak preview: I believe theotherfiona has some good photos as well, we have not looked through them yet. So, back with info and media as soon as I can (we're having a goodbye party to our German and Austrian/Bosnian friend who are leaving to München tomorrow), but I promise to do whatever I can to bring you at least tiny bits of what could have been the world's next Moscow 99 or Slane 03. Also, if translation of articles and stuff is needed, I'm here. P.S. JuliaCher, many thanks for having found HQs from this exact show and so fast. It means a lot.

Well, this is certainly not the first time that tensions were visible and problems were occuring onstage where everyone could see them (and unfortunately, hear them).
But, one little 'saving grace', as I think of it, that someone mentioned on the official bbs when John wrote his letter and everyone got into it, someone pointed out that this band might have their 'not as good' concerts, but they are real and actually playing. An important point considering so many "acts" have become that, "Acts" and just pretend to play to canned music.
Still, I am concerned, since I noticed bad tension and stuff at the 5 concerts I went to last Summer and it is stilll going on. I really feel sorry for everyone that feels disapointed in this concert, or any concert, and yeah, I do think it matters that it has been a long time since they played in an area.
