Couple of things I haven't seen mentioned.
The crowd while very excited was not rowdy - everyone was mellow and having fun- even in the pit - I was about 15 rows from stage - right in front of John
John on Bass and Flea on Trumpet...there is an amazing chemistry between those 2 - I don't think they were even aware the crowd was going nuts
Ready Made...will be a hit
Flea made a snippy comment after 21st Century...something about being able to find the bootleg tomorrow
Note to self...never go to Vegas in July!!!! It was like being in hell
There were Rockinfreaks from all over the country - my little group came from D.C., Buffalo NY. somewhere else in NY, Boston, Northern Calif., Raleigh and I'm from Charlotte
Oh yeah, on the ride over, my friends asked me what I wanted to hear...its always the same Soul to Squeeze - Man, I was one happy camper

I heard from many Fans ... they were already 9/10 a.m. there. No, it's not Flea's handwriting, it's Anthony, he always writes the Setlists ... it's in the GH- or OffTheMap-DVD. the BSSM-Booklet and BTW is also Anthonys handwriting. Flea's handwriting is in the out in l.a. Booklet. I think, JuliaCher wasn't there, not her personally photos, she got them from gettyimagesThanks for the photos!

had an unbelievable time in vegas. first time out there.. just got back to CT last night.
i'll tell ya what - i'll take the dry 110º in vegas ANY day over the sticky, disgusting 85º here in CT!
the show was a blast, though i have to be honest - the boys were VERY rusty (understandable, since they're not on tour, but it should be noted), especially Anthony.. forgotton lines all over the place.. but whatever.. still a great show..
here's my setlist, with some additional notes:
---
I: jam, By The Way > jam > Scar Tissue, Fortune Faded*, Otherside, Bass Solo > Throw Away Your Television, 21st Century**, Don't Forget Me, I Feel Love > Parallel Universe, (Thelonious Monster tune), Brandy, Get On Top, Soul To Squeeze, Readymade**, Californication, Red Hot Mama, Right On Time, Can't Stop
E: Trumpet/Bass^, Under The Bridge, Give It Away^^
* new version. ** new original; first time played. ^ Flea on trumpet; John on bass. ^^ "Irie Remix"; with extended jam at the end.
---
a note on the 'new' Fortune Faded - the chorus is different.. the harmonies are different, and Flea's bassline is completely different (slapping).. at first we thought they were REALLY messing up, but after the 2nd chorus, we realized it was just a change. i don't really dig it, but maybe it just needs to grow on me..
also, the new chorus featured 2 hits (twice) at the end of it which i have heard before (whereas the album version has 3 hits twice).. anyways, there's this mash-up that DJ Muggs (Cypress Hill) did of Jay-Z's 'Encore' over the music to 'Fortune Faded' which contains a section with these same 2 hits as the new FF... so i don't know if there is an outtake out there somewhere or what.. just thought i'd point that out..
got a ton of pics i need to go through, but i'll be sure to post some soon. just wanted to make this post first..

The concert was amazing. Me and my friend Jason arrived at the venue around 5pm. And man was it hot that day, I think I heard on the news that it was the hottest day of the year, something like 106 to 110. Fortunately they moved the show just a week before from a parking lot to a grass field, so it actually turned out to be very comfortable and it was also well organized. When we got through the gates and into the concert area I went straight to the t-shirts stand and bought myself a new Chili peppers shirt. It's nothing special just the Chili peppers symbol with the bands name around it on the front and on the back, half the symbol with the words "SummerTime 2005" under it, but it's definitely a cool reminder of the concert. Then we went straight to get two things, a big cup of water, and then a big cup of beer. But that would be our last beer until after the concert because we decided to just stick with the free water they were giving out. Next we went to get up as close to the stage as we could. There was a barrier that would separate the crowd, and to get to the pit area you just had to go up to the line where the guards were letting people in and get a orange wrist band and you could get into the pit area. With that wrist band you could leave and re-enter the pit area anytime you wanted. I think they gave out something like 10,000 wrist bands, but if you got there late or just never went up to the barrier to get a wrist band before it was too late you had to stay behind the barrier. Me and my friend got our wrist bands and we got right into the very middle of the pit area which was a great spot, we had an amazing view of the stage. There was also a gate that separated the pit area in the middle, 5,000 on the left and five thousand on the right, we were on the right side right next to the gate. Separating the crowd like this made it even more comfortable because you didn't have 50,000 fans trying to rush up toward the stage and everybody smashed together. Finally the show started at 6:30pm and the first band to hit the stage were the Adolescents which was a great surprise to me. I've been a fan of theirs for years and it was awesome getting to see them perform live, and they didn't disappoint. Unfortunately most of the crowd had no idea who they were or what their history was, which was really unfortunate, and just goes to show the lack of musical knowledge people have today. But they rocked and put on a great show. Weezer hit the stage next at around 7:30 and they put on a cool show, but I would have liked to have seen a little more energy from them, but they still rocked and played a cool set. Here's their setlist...
Say It Ain't So Photograph Undone - The Sweater Song No One Else Peace Pardon Me In The Garage Hold Me Perfect Situation Island In The Sun We Are All On Drugs Beverly Hills Buddy Holly Hash Pipe
When Weezer finished everyone started getting hyped up for the Chili Peppers. For their stage show they now have two giant effects screens on each side of the stage to go along with the video screens behind them. Also they have a ramp that goes up to a platform up behind Chad that John would put to good use later that night. Finally the Chili Peppers hit the stage about 9:30 and the crowd erupted. They immediately started with a rocking jam like they always do, and it was awesome. Then Anthony came out to join Flea, John and Chad, and the first thing he said when he came out was, "these guys are good!" They started with their set and they were rocking, it was just so great seeing them live again. Flea who was wearing just a pair of underwear and a multi-colored propeller hat had a lot of great and funny things to say. He talked a little about Live 8 and that although this wasn't a Live 8 concert we should all still send out the good vibes to the rest of the world and the people of Africa. Then he said that all the hookers in Vegas should donate all the money they would make that night, and that got a huge laugh from the audience. The Chili Peppers continued to rock, and without a doubt the highlights for me were the two new songs "21st Century" and "Ready Made." Each song was funky and had so much groove to them and just flat out rocked, they were amazing. Another cool thing was when John played a little something on guitar right before they were to start a song and Anthony asked him "what was that? Did you just play the beginning to a Thelonious Monster Song? And then John started playing it again and the whole band went into an impromptu jam of a Thelonious Monster song. Other great moments for me were their covers of "Brandy" and "Red Hot Mama," and when they played "Soul To Squeeze" which I hadn't seen them perform live in 5 years. Also Flea on trumpet and John behind him playing bass was an amazing moment. That jam was just so incredible, as was all their other jams they did between songs. All of John's solos were on fire that night as well, and he was just all over the place. For the outro solo on "Parallel Universe" he walked up that ramp that led to the platform up behind Chads drum kit and did his solo from there which was awesome. And finally their end of show jam was just incredible, one of the best I've seen with both Anthony and Flea kind of beatboxin back and forth, it was great. Then Ant, John, and Flea thanked us and told us they loved us and the show was over, and the fireworks began.
So it was just an amazing night, and all together it was an amazing weekend. Me and my friend Jason had an amazing time in Vegas partying, drinking, and gambling like we always do when we're there. We checked out the World series of Poker at the Rio for a little while, we met James Woods late Friday night walking to the poker room, and I won 300 dollars playing blackjack. But the definite highlight of the weekend was the Chili Peppers!

Anyway, it wasn't said in a mean voice - but the more I think about it, the more I think it was a crack....anyone else? was it a good snippy comment or a bad one? Flea was definitely just joking around. After "21st Century" he said "if you were smart you would have recorded that last song and you could make some money selling it on the internet because it'll be on our new record." Then right before the were about to play "Ready Made" Flea said "get your tape recorders ready because we're gonna play another new song." So he defintely said both in a joking manner.

Flea wasn't pissed because of that, he just wanted to make sure everyone would send their love out to the people of Africa and if they could they should donate. But he wasn't pissed about playing the free Vegas concert and not a free Live 8 concert. Rivers Cuomo from Weezer also mentioned Live 8 and said to send out the good vibes as well.

Here's a great review from the Las Vegas Review Journal
CHILI PEPPERS IN TOP FORM AT CENTENNIAL CONCERT
Band members show no signs of their age in electrifying show
By MIKE KALIL REVIEW-JOURNAL
After blazing through two opening songs, Red Hot Chili Peppers singer Anthony Kiedis paused onstage Saturday night to look at the massive swarm of fans before him.
"Happy birthday, Las Vegas, Nevada," Kiedis said, drawing a roar from the 50,000 people gathered before him on a grassy field outside Sam Boyd Stadium. He peered into the desert beyond them and adopted a curious tone. "I wonder what it's gonna look like in another hundred years."
That uncertainty stood in sharp contrast to the assured nature of the band's headlining performance at Vegas Rocks 100, the free concert festival celebrating the city's centennial.
Despite spending most of the past year in the studio recording their ninth album, the Chili Peppers were in top form during an electrifying 90-minute set.
And their fans experienced it in a surprisingly comfortable atmosphere.
The planning boondoggles that screwed up distribution of complimentary passes and prompted a last-minute venue change gave way Saturday to an astoundingly well-organized event. Even Mother Nature cooperated as a refreshing breeze helped cool temperatures well below the 110 degrees forecasted.
The Chili Peppers -- Kiedis, bassist Flea, guitarist John Frusciante and drummer Chad Smith -- showed no signs of their age entering their third decade playing offbeat funk-rock numbers.
After rousing versions of hits "By The Way," "Scar Tissue" and "Otherside," the quartet debuted excellent new material. The songs saw Frusciante carving out more space for wailing solos and the rest of the group stretching into a more adventurous, textured sound.
Kiedis didn't announce the name of the new numbers, but one -- with the repeated lyrics, "There's a reason for the 21st century" -- featured a blistering solo from Frusciante's Stratocaster. Another new track was even catchier. "Ready made, ready made/Rock-and-roll will set it straight," Kiedis sang over a driving bass line steering the song. "Let it out on the city of Sedona!"
When Frusciante wasn't on his knees ripping out riffs, the stage's most compelling spectacle was Flea, clad only in underwear briefs and a multicolored flyboy cap with a propeller on top.
The energetic bassist took the opportunity of a song introduction to goof on Mayor Oscar Goodman, who three hours earlier had appeared onstage to lead early concertgoers through an off-key rendition of "Happy Birthday."
"Y'know that guy who's the mayor of Las Vegas?" Flea asked. "That guy with the red nose? The guy with the showgirls? He wrote this song."
I half-expected a cover of Bessie Smith's "Me and My Gin," or even Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice" to follow in tribute to the martini-swilling mayor.
Instead, they paid homage to a girl named for another liquor, breaking into the 1970s soft rock hit "Brandy."
Yes, that's right, the Red Hot Chili Peppers played "Brandy," that incessant lite radio staple about a fine girl who would make a good wife. Yet this wasn't a wink-wink, irony-fueled cover so prevalent among rockers today. Delivering a straightforward and passionate reading, the band astoundingly elevated dreck into art.
Encore performances of mega-hits "Under the Bridge" and "Give It Away" capped one of the best concerts here in some time.
Earlier, Weezer meandered through an hour of midtempo rockers about girls, teen geekdom and drugs. Although they were playing singalong anthems swathed in power chords, the band members were nearly motionless as they slogged through perfunctory versions of "In the Garage," "Island in the Sun" and their new single, "Beverly Hills."
Frontman Rivers Cuomo -- in his nerd-signature uniform of Bermuda shorts, golf shirt and black socks -- stared at his guitar most of the time he led the band through their geek rock hits.
Laconic, still and never too loud, Weezer would've been a better fit playing Madame Tussaud's.
Yet many fans seemed pleased by a performance anchored by songs from the group's 11-year-old debut album. They bobbed their heads. They sang along. And they actually began to dance when Weezer finally cut loose on "We Are All On Drugs."
Then it was all back to business as the group brought back its bored demeanor to sleepwalk through closers "Buddy Holly" and "Hash Pipe."
The Adolescents, back together after splitting in 1989, preceded Weezer with a brief, first-class set of the frenetic Orange County punk sound they invented 25 years ago alongside Social Distortion and Agent Orange.
Among the admirers of the veteran punkers was Chili Peppers guitarist Frusciante, who stood only a few feet from the stage singing along. He politely declined an interview request with this critic by professing his love for the rare treat of an Adolescents gig, looking and sounding the part of a fanboy half his age.
"I wanna watch this show," he said, jumping in place and bobbing his head. "This is great."
And it was.

Both tunes are good though Ready Made is a bit repetitive I think especially the lyrics. Reminds me of How Strong sped up a bit. I like 21st Century much more. Still hoping Desecration Smile makes the new album.

This is a great topic thanks everyone. Can NOT wait for next album. Ready made kind of sounds like Audio Slave and Rage Agaisnt the Machine. The solo sounds like Jimmi Hendrix mixed with Black Sabath. Its like a hair band solo which is way different for John. 21st century i couldnt hear to good the recordign on the tape recorder sux balls.
